Hibernian FC invited the Club’s blind and partially sighted supporters into Easter Road earlier this month to discuss the Club’s Audio Descriptive Commentary service.
Led by Jon Attenborough, Disability Awareness Campaigner, and Joyce Harvie, Hibernian FC’s Disability Liaison Officer, supporters in attendance were asked to share and describe their football experience both at Easter Road and other stadiums around Scotland.
Focusing on the audio commentary, the supporters in attendance praised the service on offer at Easter Road explaining that it enhanced their matchday experience. They were keen to retain the audio receiver equipment for the entire season, especially as they were compatible with some other clubs’ systems for away games.
George Thomson, an Audio Descriptive Commentator for Hibs, commented: “I am in my sixth season as an Audio Descriptive Commentator for the Club, and it is a pleasure to be part of a team providing this service to our fans.
“I would love to see this service grow as I believe there are many fans who would benefit from this service which aims to give fans a better matchday experience.”
Hibernian FC’s Joyce Harvie added: “The audio commentary service provided by the Club is clearly benefiting our blind and partially sighted supporters. In addition, to supporting other fans who use it.
“I’d like to thank all the supporters that came to provide their thoughts as we’re committed to providing them with the best matchday experience possible.”
The group also discussed other ideas that would enhance their matchday experience both at Easter Road and at away grounds, which the Club is committed to looking at.
