The wee Hibees fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Kilmarnock on Friday evening.

Reuben Cooper netted in the closing stages for the hosts to snatch all three points in what was a close-fought game from start to finish at Rugby Park.

Both sides had opportunities in the opening 45 minutes, with Ryan Mallon pulling off a smart save to Deny Archie Traynor from range before Kilmarnock ‘keeper Dylan Brown got down well to stop Alfie Smith’s effort.

The hosts had a few more sightings at goal in the first-half, but Mallon was equal to everything in what was a good individual performance from the Hibs youngster.

Both teams exchanged blows in a competitive second half, but it was the visitors who went on to snatch it at the death when Reuben Cooper prodded home a winner from inside the six-yard box.

Darren McGregor’s side rallied in the final five minutes, with a flurry of late corners and set-pieces.

The wee Hibees saw efforts cannon back off the woodwork on two separate occasions but in the end, the hosts held on the claim the victory.

Up next, the Hibees travel to Celtic in their final match of the CAS Elite U18s League.
