Hibs Women would kick-off the 2024/25 season with a narrow victory against Partick Thistle at Lochburn Park.

Abbie Ferguson opened her Hibernian account for the season with 10 minutes played, before Bowie added another in the second half. Partick would reply but the Hibees would hold out to start the season off with a positive result.

Kathleen McGovern stung the legs of Jeni Currie with a powerful low effort early on in Maryhill, before Tegan Bowie attempted the spectacular with an acute shot from range moments later.

On the opposite flank, Stacey Papadopoulos pulled off a fantastic mazy run down the right. After the Aussie cut inside, the travelling Hibees were unlucky not to see McGovern knock the ball in to open the scoring.

Inspired by the positive start, Abbie Ferguson opened the scoring after 10 minutes - firing a low effort into the bottom corner to score the club's first goal of the new season.

Following a brief break in play, Kirsten Reilly was unlucky not to see her close-range bullet header nestle in the back of the net after connecting well with Ciara Grant’s free-kick.

On the counter, debutant goalkeeper Noa Schumacher was called also into action. The American reacted well to come off her line and get down low to deny Thistle’s Cara Henderson.

Hibs would have the ball in the net for a second time after half an hour, but McGovern’s driven effort would be flagged for offside by the touchline official.

Upon the second half restart, McGovern was unlucky once again from the off. Her looping ball over the head of the helpless Partick ‘keeper sailed above the crossbar after a good advancing move.

Tegan Bowie increased the score not long after. A seamless passing move between Ferguson and McGovern saw the ball land clean at the feet of our number 24, who smashed an effort into the top corner of the net after 50 minutes.

Thistle would be quick off the mark to respond, however. They would reduce the deficit shortly before the hour mark via Emma Lawton’s powerful effort from way out.

A hat-trick of chances would fall for McGovern. And again she would prove unlucky. Her toe-poke touch on the line was outstandingly saved by Jeni Currie and our number 10 was unable to find a way to force a follow-up over the line. Bowie was at the centre of the action once again, nearly turning provider to open McGovern’s tally not long after.

With less than 10 minutes remaining, Linzi Taylor would make her competitive debut for Hibs off the bench.

The Hibees would manage to hold-out in the remaining minutes, despite a late onslaught by Thistle, to secure all three points on a difficult surface.
